Quiet, little, dated place... the orange chicken is the most amazing dish ever! I'd be willing to hop a flight just to eat here again.
Decent spot, lunch specials are super cheap. The general gaus chicken was pretty good. I haven't ordered it in about 20 years since I was in college. The hot and sour soup was very good. This is a decent spot, but nothing to write home about.
Yan's Kitchen is my favorite happy hour go-to restaurant near where I work. Note that they only accept cash here! Their happy hour is from Mondays through Fridays 11-3pm, and it starts from $7.35 which includes steamed rice with either steamed or fried dumplings.I ordered the salt and pepper chicken with fried dumplings and was not disappointed. The wait was a bit long (10 minutes), but that's because they were busy and only had one server and cook. I'm assuming that it's the husband and wife.I took my order to go and thank goodness they have huge servings! The chicken was freshly cooked, and it had the right texture. It wasn't overcooked nor undercooked - it was perfect! The fried dumplings were great too!Overall, I highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a restaurant that has happy hour and big portions.
Just ate here with some friends and the food was way below par. I was spitting food back into my napkin. We had three dishes and each disappointed. Meat was gritty and sinewy, the fried rice was skimpy and bland, and everything tasted the same- salty and indistinguishable taste. It was one of the worst Chinese food I ever had and I live in SF! The older couple who run the place are nice folks and I do not want to disparage their restaurant but for the $10 a dish price, I have to warn you, Chinatown as a whole is not the place to experience good quality Chinese food these days it appears.
Highly recommend their food, especially the General Tso's Chicken. I love the older couple who owns it. They are incredibly sweet. They make everything fresh so be prepared for it to take a little longer than usual but it's worth it. It's inexpensive but be warned, they only take cash.
Loved this place! The eggplant with tofu and general Tso's chicken were on point. Would definitely eat here again. Portion sizes were good. The pictures below are from their lunch special. I had to box up half my meal. My husband finished his. Would definitely recommend. Just remember that this place only accepts cash! :) The people running the restaurant are super friendly.
Simple place, great dishes with lots of flavor!
Great mom and pop restaurant, it was like you were eating in your grandma's kitchen. No frills, just great homemade tasting food at a reasonable price. Large portions, great value, tastes amazing and bring cash!
Best food ever and a cute little mom and pop shop the owners are the sweetest!
Foods was ok but place needs upgrades
I celebrated my PhD yesterday in this delicious restaurant. Well we had a pleasant evening and the venue was unquestionably one of the reasons for the happy evening. The team contributed in a graceful style, the meals were extremely good and my guests were so pleased. We shall no dout visit again for more events. Thank you very much.
I am from New York City and feel I can tell good Chinese food , and pizza.Yan's kitchen was hands-down the BEST Chinese food I've ever had. Delicious...
Tiny spot, with big flavor. Hands down some of the best Chinese I've had in the city. Bring some cash, because they don't take cards, but you won't need that much either...their lunch special with appetizer/rice/entree is killer.
It was fried perfectly and it was quick service and all our amazing food
Love this Family owned kitchen SOOOOOOO great
SO DELICIOUS! The General Tso’s chicken was the best ive had. Such a nice balance of sweet, salty and spice and the batter coating on the chicken was very light and crispy, not heavy and overly cooked, or soggy with sauce and oil like most other places. All the food was amazing. The potstickers were the best ive had as well. I highly recommend you stop by Yan’s Kitchen before the owners retire!
This is my favorite place to go to when I come to San Francisco, the staff is wonderful and the food is superb.
I work in the financial district, and am always looking for cheap, local food I can count on. Yan's is a small, mom and pop establishment that appears to be only run by mom and pop! Very nice couple, and great food for the price. I love their lunch specials for about $7. So far I haven't had anything I don't like, and they have options for every dish what type of meat you want with what sauce you like. The spicy level varies with each "spicy" dish. The ginger and garlic sauce was the hottest yet I've had on their menu, but they also have hot sauce for you to add to taste. Their non-spicy meals are also great, I love their chicken and broccoli. You get a good amount of food for what you pay for. Definitely worth a stop for a quick lunch. So, support your local store and keep this gem around!
Quiet, clean small restaurant with a menu full of classic dishes. Well prepared whether eat in or take out. No gushing friendliness, just good portions and food as you expect it. The moo shu shrimp is my favorite. The crepes served with it always seem freshly made.
My top spot for Chinese food. Very delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The place has a great atmosphere.
Lunch specials for under $10 like general chicken, seafood, and veggie options. You get a side of egg rolls or dumplings with your order. The setting is simple and the owners are friendly. Decent spot for a quick meal.
Great Restaurant. The old lady at the counter was simply one of the best restaurant hosts I've ever met. The dinner special for 1 is great value for money and super tasty!
The Best fried rice ever! Fried dumplings like no other! Mongolian beef amazing! Sweet little lady waited on us :)
I am a regular here. I love the food - it is a no frills restaurant that is a hidden gem. Weekdays are usually a bit busy since many in the financial district walk here to have a quick lunch. I used to work close to this restaurant and it used to be my favorite go to place for lunch.
One of my favorite places for Chinese food. Nice location to meet with family. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. The place has an awesome atmosphere.
Prices are good, food was sub-par. I got the orange chicken and it was so over-fried that you couldn't even really taste the meat.
Food is authentic as it gets, 10+ for that. A small family run business, the lady running the place is super nice, a real sweet heart. Many great lunch specials, you get tremendous value for your money here.
Very few vegetarian options, and none of them are exciting. Not very kid friendly either. No high chairs, and the staff was visibly annoyed at my kid.
We often discuss simply flying into SF to visit Yan’s kitchen! Made fresh and upon order. SOoooo good. Go there NOW!
The worst Chinese restaurant in SF and total disgrace to Human cuisine in terms of taste. Even if you look for white rice and veggies, there are many decent and honest owners around not just giving you more than half box of white rice and a quarter box of cabbage. 三藩市最糟糕的中餐馆。Definitely stay away even if you look Americanized Chinese food!
Great spot for tasty chinese food. This place will surprise you. The staff was very friendly and kind. It has a good interior.
One of the worst orange chicken meals that I have ever had. Chicken was questionable at best and the outer breading was quite tough. My girlfriend loves the sweet and sour pork and I was very excited to try this place. All i got was a burnt meal. Even my girlfriend was disappointed. I will try it again just because my girlfriend is nagging me about my review.
I love these little hole in the wall restaurants where the food is incredibly fresh and cooked to order. Eat here every chance you get.
I love this place. The General Tsao is delicious and has jalapeno slices on top, never had anything like it. A trip to SF must include Yan's for me. Wash it down with a frosty Anchor Steam for the complete experience.
Delicious food and nice-sized servings. Service was very good! Quiet and clean dining rxpexperie. Prices were very fair. Highly recommended!
Great little mom and pop shop. I only eat Chinese food here when I'm in San Francisco. I dream about the orange chicken, it has a thin crisp layer on the outside and we'll cooked and tender on the inside. You should also try the won ton soup, and let mama' serve you the first bowl. Makes you feel right at home.
If you're looking for a fancy Chinese food place, this isn't it. This is a no frills, real mom-and-pop Chinese food eatery that's both affordable and delicious. The mom takes your order and the dad is the chef. Once you get your order, they don't really bother you and leave you to your meal. Again, no frills, just good food.
Had the curry chicken - the taste and quality was excellent. Good service too.
Small family-run restaurant. Excellent food. Staff very friendly. Good prices.
I'm an SF native and this is the best little "hole in the wall" Chinese food in the city.
Excellent food at a great price. The owners only wants to please by workinglong hours and offering great service. The food can not be fresher and I love going at least once a week. You will not be disappointed if you give it a try!!!
